A Friend Indeed (December 24, 2021)

Psalms 41:9 NKJV
“Even my own familiar friend, whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me”.

In Psalm 41, we find David lamenting about enemies that encompassed him, enemies that were gloating at the calamity that had come upon him, that wished he was dead and his name perished. But there was one of those enemies that made David more sad and troubled; it was his own familiar, or we can say close friend, whom he trusted, who ate his food, in other words, whom he had always been good to, who lifted up his heels against him. This friend turned on him and moved against him.

Friend, perhaps you have had an experience with someone like David. You had friends who you were loyal to and good to and who turned on you. The good news is that you have a friend indeed. His name is Jesus. Proverbs 17:17 says, A friend loves at all times, and Jesus is that friend. He is that friend who would love you at all times. He would never turn on you, throw you to the wolves, or take sides with those who want you downcast.

So, if you are in need of a friend, first look to Jesus, and as you look to Him, He will bring wonderful human friends to simplify His friendship in your life. There is indeed a friend in Jesus.

Confession
I have a friend who loves me at all times, in my good times and in my bad times.
His name is Jesus.
He will never turn on me but help me when I am in need of one.
Glory to God!
